How Scientists Can Participate in Politics: Understanding the Hatch Act and More

Join us on Thursday, October 8 from 6:00–7:00 p.m. ET for a free webinar!

Scientists are increasingly using their voices to engage in politics, especially with the 2020 U.S. general election looming. But can you make a political donation, volunteer for a campaign, or express your support for a candidate on social media without putting your job at risk?

In this free webinar, Climate Science Legal Defense Fund lawyers will discuss how researchers from all disciplines can fully participate in political campaigns and activism. We’ll discuss the limits on political expression and involvement likely to be relevant for many scientists during campaign season, particularly the Hatch Act. We’ll also talk about how researchers can engage in Congressional activism and advocacy without violating anti-lobbying laws.

The session will include tips and best practices for scientists active in politics so they can minimize the risk of negative repercussions in their professional lives. There will be ample time for audience Q&A as well.

Please RSVP on Eventbrite.
